I'm sure one of the news articles said that the weapons the guy used had their serial numbers filed off. Doesn't that pretty much guarantee they weren't legal anyway?

I don't think it's that you guys need a whole lot more gun laws, you just need to start enforcing the ones you already have a bit more effectively. Most school shootings were facilitated by parents not locking guns up properly or the illegal weapons trade - neither of which would be affected a great deal by more laws being brought into action.
