i didnt have to do community service for school, is this a common thing or something

Yea I think its common, of course I always get the teacher with the overly huge ideals so they want us to CHANGE THE WORLD!!!! and show us the "Pay it Forward" movie expecting us all to live up to that. When we're teenagers.
