I like the story and a few of the characters, I just never thought it was scary.

I dunno, I got the impression from the way everyone talked about it that Pyramid Head would be dynamically stalking me throughout the game ala Scissorman in Clock Tower. All of his encounters being scripted was by far my biggest disappointment.

The side scenario where you play as Maria I thought was really fucking scary, though.
