I haven't figured out any other way than to create new ranks for everyone that wants a title with the control panel that comes with phpBB.
I imagine that with a little bit of code, you could probably add a new field to the phpbb_users table and allow people to change their own title in their profiles, but I don't know what kind of effect that could have on other parts of the board. :/
Of course, it would eliminate all the fun we had with RaveKitty and her title. It might be best to only give custom titles to people that have earned them (or deserve them.)
