the myanmar government (and other "third world" repressive states) are not the only ones who monitor e-mails. our government does and i assume that the US government does too.
at any rate these states are only doing what any state would do, take any necessary measures to ensure the safety of the state as opposed to the people of the state.
the fact is that governments are already in place in these nations and anyone seeking to change government through any means other than the legal framework already in place is by definition a terrorist. people accused of terrorism in the west can be held without significant evidence indefinitely.
i am not saying that i support censorship or repressive government, just remember that not all terrorists are bad people.
