The risk for severe weather will remain elevated through the evening hours as a vigorous storm system rotates eastward through the Plains. The main tornado threat stretches from Oklahmoa to parts of Missouri and Iowa. Significant damage has already occurred in the Omaha, Neb., area. With time, the thunderstorms will form into squall line overnight pressing east across Iowa, Missouri, western Illinois, and Arkansas with damaging winds becoming the primary threat.
On Friday, clusters of strong-to-severe thunderstorms will redevelop ahead of the cold front from Ohio to the Ark-La-Tex. Damaging wind gusts, hail and isolated tornadoes are possible but the overall threat will be lower in intensity and coverage. The main area of concern will be from the lower Great Lakes to western Tennessee. On Saturday look for isolated strong thunderstorms over parts of the Northeast, mainly from eastern New York to New England.
