Ok, this takes a little bit of explaining:

There is this subculture full of idiots who believe Smash Brothers is meant to be played on even arenas without items or "cheap" characters, and they all practice playing Melee hours and hours a day so they can compete in tournaments with other people like them to win money and circle jerk. In these tournaments, they play only on Final Destination so there will be no random elements present (which is half the fun) and usually only play Fox or Marth, because the other characters are unfair to use. They also rely heavily on wavedashing and L-Canceling. /v/ refers to them as Tourneyfags. Smashboards is full of these bastards, and while normally I and most other people wouldn't give a crap, they seem to love boasting their superiority around the internet to anyone they can and are horribly annoying.

The "REAL MEN USE ITEMS" message in the update was basically Sakurai telling them to eat his dick, which is why I like it.

Not to mention that the updates have shown Brawl to be less and less tourneyfag friendly as the days roll by, so this is like the killing blow after a long and satisfying buildup of PAIN AND MISERY.

Yea I like that too. I'm just upset because I should be PLAYING IT TODAY and instead I'm reading a repeat of an update called an update and its been a month sicne a character revealed.

I used to know a guy in high school named Random who wouldn't let me use block moves or jump in any fighting games we played because they were "cheap".

He hated smash brothers and I ended up accidently getting him expelled from school its a great story actually.

The only item I absolutely hate is the hammer. I don't know why.

my little brother usually wanted to play melee with only 1/8th of the items in the game. I thought that was stupid, but having no items is worse i suppose.

I love power items like the hammer because whenever one appears it results in a ridiculous battle to get to it first.

items suck because they give all the characters really cheap projectiles. bowser shouldnt be able to edge guard with a random thrown item :/

when brawl comes out it will be final smash only

There's a ton of skill involved in using items, too, and it rounds out the characters who have certain shortcomings. It's the reactive aspect of the game and when you take that away, that's when the 'tiers' really start to be obvious (and games descend into marth vs fox vs sheik very quickly).

It really makes the game not fun when you turn items off. It's smash bros, not street fighter, so play the god damn game the way it's meant to be played.
