So I went to the Eastern Analytical Symposium (wall-to-wall geek-a-thon) trying to pick up some chicks -- only kidding of course. Stopped at some booth without any real interest, while some guy shoves a paper in my face saying "Register to win a free i-Pod nano". I don't know what that is (oxymoron), but I say, "sure, what the hell". Three days later I find out I won it. Only one question - what did I just win, and should I feel lucky or what?

iTunes isn't that bad once you figure it out (up till that point it is a riddle though)

besides, a free MP3 player is a free MP3 player

And you want to set up a way to play it through your car (I use a device that broadcasts it onto a dead radio station)

Well iPod Nano's cost a bundle (100-200 dollars last I looked) so you won a nice prize. You can put all your CDs on it. And they make even the smallest Walkman look like a giant clunky piece of junk

I don't see the fuss about ipods. I have a really nice Philips mp3 player, nice 'n' shiny, works great, super reliable, lotsa memory, VERY simple to use, the whole thing is just a 1.5 inch square - the list goes on. Considering it cost me £20...

I also have a question: Being a costume student, I do a lot of hand sewing. I wear the shiny off them, rendering them useless. Why? Do I have magic acid hands?

What do you mean by "them"? Are you referring to the sewing needles, perhaps? :curious

EDIT: On reflection, you're probably referring to the costume material. Depending on the quality and type/composition of the "shiny fabric", and of course depending on the pH of your perspiration, yes, it is entirely possible that your sweaty palms are eating away at the "shiny".

Barring changing into a different person, or buying more "sweat-resistant" material, your best solution would be to wear cheap nitrile or vinyl gloves while sewing, and keeping your hands clean and dry at other times. (Not latex, too many people are allergic.) It will be uncomfortable for you, but you won't ruin the costumery. Life is a series of trade-offs.

Yes, and it's been a blast getting podcasts and iTunes. You can get carried away, however, and I've learned restraint already.

I used to subscribe to This Week In Science out of UC Davis, but it got so there were so many backlogged podcasts that I got hopelessly mired.
