I've been really anticipating this game. I was a DooM freak when I was little. It was one of my first "real" (non-shareware) PC games.

So yeah. I hope they don't (or didn't, in this case. So it's out now?) screw it up.

Well, Doom 3 sucks, why?, just because my PC can't handle it!!!! This goes for every new game :P.

I hope I can get a new PC with enought power to run that damn game (at lest decently). Then it won't suck anymore :D. Meanwhile, I'll find someone with a decent PC and obligate him/her to buy it.

I got it today, and I promptly creamed my pants at how good it looks. The sound effects alone are amazing, too.

A note about the requirements, though. I have a 2.4 P4 with 1GB of RAM and a Radeon 9600, and I cannot run it playably in any resolution higher than 1024x768, and if I even turn on the lowest level of anti-aliasing (2x... it goes up to 16x), the play bogs down like a motherfucker, although the still shots that I get to see make me blow my load.

I can run it on "ultra-high" quality, which really just ups the polygon count and increases the texture detail, but there are minor pauses when there's lots of stuff happening, making it impractical for normal play. It gives you a warning when you set it to ultra-high, too. It tells you that it's going to be using 500MB of RAM just for textures. :O

1024x768, no anti-aliasing (it really doesn't need any) and high detail is smooth as silk.

The best things about it so far are:
- fire effects rival those in pre-rendered CG movies
- models cast shadows on themselves, even their noses and dimples do.
- faces move to match words
- lighting effects are fucking amazing. I walked around for a few minutes turning the flashlight on and off. :O
- exit wounds on bad guys

I also got a free copy of KotOR from the store when I bought it.

There's some in-game cut scenes, too, when they introduce certain monsters.

I'm loving this game. I haven't had this much fun in years. It's been a long time since an FPS actually startled me, and Doom 3 has done that a couple times already. Locked doors that suddenly buckle because something on the other side is trying to get through, monsters that can crawl on walls, monsters dropping from the ceiling...

It sounds like it's the manifestation of most known terrors, wrapped up in a canister of awesome filled with liquid swank in order to keep it from melting down to the core of absolute fright.

This is what many places look like in the game.


Turning on your flashlight is necessary and it makes pretty lighting effects. You can't really tell from the screenshot, but they've made it so that you can see DUST moving in the fucking air really close to the light.

FAT GUY - FACE + WRENCH =

I'm trying to get a good screenshot of the imps, but they are too fast and if you don't kill them right away they tear you to shreds. They can crawl on walls and leap down hallways by crouching and springing forward. They can toss you around and when you get hit, the screen goes blurry for a second. :O

I'm running it on the lowest settings possible with anti aliasing off and it still slows down when im in large areas.

Still playable, although this game is very linear.

Dead skeletons with rocket launchers.

When you kill demons, their corpses disintegrate like they're burning up. They turn into those funky orange dots like in this picture.

Yeah, the expression on your marine's face is perfect.

They're not as tough to kill as they made it seem, though, but it is still awesome because it instilled pants-shitting, run-up-the-nearest-ladder fear of them in me for a little while.

As those cutscenes go on, the marine's expression is turning into anger rather than surprise at each new monster.
