New Line Confirms Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash Treatment
Project waiting for green light.
October 07, 2004 - New Line Cinema is definitely interested in making a sequel to Freddy vs. Jason, and combining it with a third horror franchise, Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series. New Line executive Jeff Katz himself wrote the script treatment, according to a new interview at Creature Corner. "I wrote the treatment and we're all very excited about it," he told the horror fansite.
While the Evil Dead movies may not have been major commercial successes, that won't stop the producers from including cult hero Ash, the chainsaw-wielding store clerk. "It's not about box office and what would make for the most commercial sequel," says Katz. "It's about delivering a story that will be better than the first and a story that makes sense given the continuity of the franchises."
Katz also hopes to flesh out the character of Jason Voorhees a little more in the sequel (as much as is possible, anyway). "We heard that [Jason was underutilized in Freddy vs. Jason] from fans too, and I think part of that's because Freddy has so much personality, especially compared to Jason, and any other character would be overshadowed standing next to Freddy. My entire idea is to help turn Jason into a bit more of a three-dimensional character without losing what makes him a scary badass. We have a cool twist I'm hoping will happen."
Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash hasn't gotten the go-ahead yet, but a decision could be made soon. Stay tuned!
