The Goth trives arrived in Germany when they begged the Romans for help. Invaders from the east had pushed them out of their native land. The Romans gave the land to the Goths, and then started taxing them to slavery. Goth mercenary fighters fought for, and against the Huns. The largest threat of Roman power of that time. After Attila was assasinated, and the Huns scattered, the Gothic tribes started fighting back. They pushed the Huns back east, and carved up their own Kingdoms.
Visigoth/Ostrogoth are the names for the most powerful Tribe that brought together many smaller tribes into a united tribe.
The Visigoth tribe, under the Warking Alaric, sacked Rome, but the united tribes fell apart upon his death.
The Ostrogoths rose up from the ashes of the Visigoths, and sacked Rome again.
Anglo-Saxxons where also of Goth decent, and where shipped to England as mecernary fighters, and where left there. The Franks, are another Gothic Tribe, situated in Franch.
A while after, Christinaity completed the collapse of Rome, and the faith came to the Germanic Gothic tribes. Who embraced it, and did away with their Norse beliefs.
