Part A - A post suitable for I-Mockery which avoids any possibility of being torn to ribbons for not being funny or whatnot.

Part 1 - A post I made for another forum which attempts to be somewhat entertaining in addition to giving the facts.

Part A
Apparently they're making a new SoF game. It looks OK but here's the catch - I heard the Deer Hunter developers were making it. Sounds like a quick console cash-in to me but I'm still somewhat looking forward to checking it out.

Part 1
Time was it only one gaming franchise could describe its self as being ultra-violent. Back before the Manhunts of the world tried to muscle in on the fun. That Franchise was of course Solder of Fortune.
It pioneered such revolutionary gameplay mechanics as removable limbs, shootable groins and explodeable heads. Who could forget the guy taking a piss in the first mission, or the first time you realised the game only cared if you killed American civilians while completely ignoring the number of Iraqi civilians you killed (it wasn't lying about the "realistic depiction of modern warfare", apparently).

The first game was declared a triumph, and was only improved in the second incarnation which allowed you to unlock further mysteries of the human skull using an array of small arms and a decent-ish storyline to boot.

If you agree with any of this post so far I have some good news for you, and unfortunately some bad news.

Firstly the good news - there is a new Solder of Fortune game being released soon.
Secondly the better news - it has yet again raised the bar in grisly dismemberments.
Thirdly the bad news - it's almost certainly going to be a terrible game.

Reading the first two points it's difficult to justify the third but hear me out.

First of all here is some media of the game:

So it looks aright doesn't it? But don't be fooled. I heard this game was being made by the same people that made the bargain bin DEER HUNTER series. Presumably that's why this isn't Soldier of Fortune 3, but rather Payback!.

I have no idea why Activision would allow sub standard developers to make a SoF game, I mean Raven aren't an easy act to follow but the deer hunter guys? The DEER HUNTER guys???

Smells suspiciously cynical marketing ploy to cash in on the fertile console market to me, and we all know how those usually turn out.

There is hope, I guess. I mean at least shooting people will be fun even if the rest of the game isn't too great.

I'm starting to ramble.

Opinions?

The first two games were only notable for their gore content, and were otherwise unremarkable shooters. As long as the Deer Hunter guys keep it bloody, they should be fine.
