I highly recommend it. It's like Morrowind in it's freedom, except that it's a space sim (with mouse control, so you don't have to dig your flightman out of the garbage) with some RPG/Adventure elements. The plot is good, and the fact that the different empires are all based on Earth nations is cool, too. The systems have names like New York, and you can go to planet Manhattan. Plus, the animation is great. The camera angles in it make me think I'm watching a movie.

Damn, I thought it might be a new action-packed game in which an out-of-work web designer desperately tries to get some freelance projects...

No, but you can kill yourself by flying into the planet's atmosphere. That would be the closest thing to being a web designer in the game.
