Woohoo for shameless self-promotion!

I just hooked up with an agent who's booking me to play the trombone on cruise ships. I'm going to do one month this fall, six months next year before I go back to school, and then as much as I feel like after I finish my master's. They're going to pay me the better part of $2000 a month to perform for about three hours a day, plus free room and board.

I don't have to work a 40-hour day job ever again!!

I was offered that as an oboe player. Better read that fine print. I didn't take it the job. Otherwise, congrats, bro!

They have oboe players in jazz bands?

Yeah, I know about fine print. I've been in the entertainment business for a few years now, and I've dealt with some shady asshole agents. Overall, the story I hear from people who have actually done this kind of gig is that it's basically what it's made out to be: good compensation, ample free time, and few responsibilities. I think the demand for good players who are willing to give up their land-based lives for months at a time just exceeds the supply right now.

I've known some aerobics instructors that do that cruise ship thing. It's a good deal, but you have to teach like 5 classes per day...which kind of sucks.

It all depends. The comics I've known who've done cruise ships in general thought it was a pretty sweet deal. But comics have low standards.

I'm also told there are buckets of free food.

Congrats to you, sir, and be careful who you tell you are a Satanist. I'm told it kind of freaks the 'Love Boat' scene out.
