Old May 16th, 2011, 10:28 AM        Forced redirects from google links
When I google something and click on a result link with my work laptop, 40% of the time it'll take me to some unrelated fake search site with ads disguised as search results, and another 40% of the time I'll get this bullshit:

I asked my boss about it, and he claims the company is using DyneDNS to help our idiot users not fuck their shit up on a daily basis, but something stinks here. It shouldn't be blocking me from Wikipedia, Youtube, or I-Mock, and the address for this page looks hell of suspicious.

This is obnoxious as dog shit since I usually just google websites to get to them as fast as possible, but I also think there's something seriously wrong with my computer.

Oh, and sometimes when I'm browsing or just let an IE window sit open for too long, a popup will pop up right the fuck out of nowhere for another of those fake search engines.

I've run Malwarebytes a couple of times and deleted everything it didn't like, but this redirect crockery won't stop. The fuck's happening?

If it's a work computer, can't you ask for the important stuff to be transferred to a new computer and switch them out while they reformat this?

if malwarebytes won't get rid of it you prob. need to go to an antimalware specialist site like geekstogo.com and post a help request in their forums

I got one of these Google redirect viruses on my old computer. Instead of fixing the problem I got a new computer (which I needed anyway, unrelated to the virus), so nothing I tried worked before then. A temporary solution is to right-click new-tab any Google link you click, which will actually take you where you want to go. It's a pain in the ass, but if you've got the same virus then it's really the only inconvenience I had to deal with

Yeah, I can just switch to another computer temporarily, but I've had to rebuild the damn thing once already and I was getting the stinkeye the whole time

I really hate getting viruses like this because whoever I ask to fix it acts like I've just fucked up on a galactic scale. "YOU WILL NEVER BE TRUSTED WITH TECHNOLOGY AGAIN," they seem to say.

it's seriously not much effort

OTL quick scan takes maybe 5 minutes at most, and all you gotta do is copy-paste the log that pops up when it finishes into a post

of course if the malware blocks you from downloading/running OTL it can be more work but then you know it's something serious and you really gotta do it

I got the same thing on my computer. It might be related to this other one I have at home where it blocked me from getting windows updates for like a year and a half now. Even if I go back and restore the pc to a date before it got infected.

Well, mine was a virus that had three different files in System32, and I guess how it worked was they were constantly running checks on each other to make sure they were all still functional. Once you deleted one, the other two would go "Oh snap, we're getting fucked with," and reinstall the deleted file, kinda like that virus in the Brotherhood of Steel bunker in New Vegas.

I ran Kapersky's AVP Tool for something like a day and it managed to lock down all three of them and delete them simultaneously, along with all the other shit I've picked up from streaming video TV episode link sites. It was totally some super-rad movie hacker shit.

I think that's what I got. The Kasperitus. I'm going to try the Kapersky deal when I get home.
