One review says the Wii version is better than the PS3/360 versions because the world map convos have no voice overs.

It's as if taking away features makes the game better. That's how bad it is.

It kind of does when there are two seperate teams working on two different versions.

Sonic will keep sucking because people keep buying that shit. Sonic Team's got no reason to try.

I never liked Sonic back in the day, but at least I could respect it and the people who liked it

I haven't read every single post in this thread yet, so please forgive me if I say something that has already been said before. I'm assuming that at least one or two people have already mentioned that the new Sonic isn't really the same as the older Sonic.. and that the original Sonic (on the Sega) was really just about being a more fast paced platform game, to compete with the "slower" ones (such as Mario) and that the checkerboard ground and multi colored grass on the first level was really there just to make it appear as though Sonic was moving faster than he really was, right?
And that pretty much ALL of the 3D Sonic games were pretty shitty? Adventure was fun, but only if you view it like you would view the new Indiana Jones movie as more of a tribute to Indiana Jones than an actual Indy Jones movie itsself. And if it wasn't bad because of story, it was probably bad because of other obvious issues. Anyway, the new Sonic game shouldn't surprise anyone... Its this odd new trend to take something that used to be good and make it bad. The people who will play it usually don't know any better...
Sonic is the 'blue blur', so naturally there will be games that showcase this speed.. Why they would make him a wear..hedgehog.. is beyond me.

They call it a werehog, which would in some way imply he has way too many carbs.

I have an unrelated question... When did Sonic become associated with metal? I can only name two levels from the first two Sonic games where metal really came around .. Springyard (maybe) and Metropolis Zone. But other than that, Sonic has always had a techno feel, as far as soundtracks go. Did this all start because of Sonic CD? Maybe I'm alone in this, but listening to metal-esque music will running past vibrant pink and green trees doesn't seem right to me ... Shadow having metal music makes more sense, since he's 'edgy', but Sonic?

C'est la vie?

That Sonic is now crap, full of metal cliches (in terms of music) and bland, 'edgy' characters and so many other problems.

The Sonic Rush games actually use a more Jet Set Radio-influenced soundtrack (made by the same guy, actually). If you're into funky stuff, it's worth checking out. Said games are also good, so that's always nice.

Also, Sonic's always had dumb music. Sonic Boom, Super Sonic Racing, Live and Learn, etc.

Sonic! He can really move! Sonic! He's got an attitude! Sonic! He's the fastest thing aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive.

Yeah, true... I forgot about Sonic Rush. But in terms of the soundtrack playing when you play a game, its usually something funky and techno-y. Usually.

Sonic Team didn't make Sonic Rush, that may be why it doesn't completely suck.

Oh yes, "going right to the point of obtainment as fast as you can" is such a great game. They did that with Sonic Advance 2.
I miss it when I had to make Sonic actually go through a level to find something... Like more rings, a special stage or whevever the little Metal Sonic hologram is, not to go one direction and do little "moves" to gain points or some shit to make me faster or something like that...
Its a fun game in its own way, I guess, but I hate that its a Sonic game...

Alright, maybe I should use different words...
"Go in one direction to get to the end of the level."
You don't actually obtain anything unless you count the emeralds from the special zones at the end of the levels in the first game.
And english is my first language

Rush Adventure had pretty solid level design, marred only by forced vehicle segments and the need to repeat levels. The bosses were clever as hell too.

I suppose so... but that doesn't instantly excuse the fact that the majority of the gameplay is "Quick, go right! Faster!" ... Unless I have to play further on to actually experience something more? I couldn't get to far into it, I don't care much for "go as fast as you can in one direction."
But then again, its not the worst Sonic related game I've played...

Oh and before anyone says anything, I am fully aware that the majority of otherwise 'simple' platformer games are pretty much "go right to reach the goal", but its just not the same when all it is is just running really really fast with only a small handful of "obstacles."

Isn't that why we liked Sonic games in the first place?

What? No.. that really shouldn't have been the case...
Look, the game was (to my understanding) made to be a more fast paced, action packed platformer to compete with the other platformer games out there. Most notably Mario. But up until after Sonic Adventure was released, it was never soley about going right as fast as you can and jump over the one or two enemies in your way. I mean, look at Sonic 1. A few examples would probably have to be Labrynth Zone (including the third part of Scrap Brain) where you had to go left for a decent chunk of the level too. There were never speed boosts on the ground, and you didn't get 'rewarded' for doing cheap little tricks while you ran as fast as you could through an entire level. Same thing goes for Sonic 2 up to Knuckles.
From what I've seen, the whole trend of making Sonic more about running fast (speed) over anything else happened during the Adventure series and it just stuck.
