It's a very common thing for society to blame "marriage" as the cause of relationships going bad. Fact is, many relationships that last a long time go sour after a while, and the only thing at fault there is the people. If you've been in a relationship with somebody for 5 years or so, you're pretty much married whether you've got a ring on yer finger or not. Marriage just makes the breaking up harder to do in some cases (Cosmo's for example. A good friend of mine is also in the middle of a nasty divorce that's been going on for more than 3 years and there's still no end in sight and there are two kids involved ) Anyway, my point is that people break up all the time, married or not... that's just the way shit goes.

And holy shit... DOLE! (why the new account though? need me to reset your PW on your old one?)

I think the two worst types of marriages are those of convenience and those in which you settle for less. Both of which happened to my mum, and we're still trying to find the second dirtbag since he skipped town.

Good luck Glowbelly, to you and yours.
I was with my lady 6 years before we married. I'm going off of my own personal experience.

In all seriousness, should they come out with a marriage lease instead of a license. There would be no need for pre-nups and I think a lot less hassle in the court system.

If daytime television crime drama has taught me anything it's that you don't need to divorce someone after you've killed them.

Perhaps a marriage license should expire after a few years. If you still want to be married, just renew it.

That's exactly what I mean. I'm statistically screwed when I get married, so I'm pushing for a lease.

I disagree. I think it should be no take backs & anyone that doubts they can commit their entire life to someone else doesn't get married. If you marry in a church you often have to jump through hoops to get there, such as convincing the priest, taking marriage lessons etc. More hoops, & more slaps upside their heads saying 'this shit is serious, fool' and maybe people will be more willing to admit they're too selfish to share their life with someone else.

Things aren't always that clear when it starts out though, even if a couple has been together for quite some years. Life changes, people change. I think a lot of people are marrying earlier now too. I know people have been getting married at really young ages throughout the history of the world but think about how much longer a person is expected to live for. People say 40 is the new 20. Maybe just everyone I know has their biological clock on overdrive. When I was 19 I was going to get married, switching religions(therefore wowing another religions priest into letting us go ahead with it) completely sure that's what I wanted. Long story short I'm glad I got out in time. I'm 23 now and I'm sure my opinion will change in the years to come. Right now in my life I would go with a lease though.

Yeah I actually agree with you. People are only supposed to be with one partner. Build a home, have kids, look after them until they leave and when they do, you have to look after each other until the end. I think people get divorced because either;

a) they chose the wrong person in the first place

b) they didn't put in enough to keep it going

I think it's a decision that shouldn't be made based entirely on emotional reasoning. You have to be able to figure out if you're honestly mature enough to commit to one person for the rest of your life. This is obviously easier said than done.
