Old May 30th, 2007, 04:15 PM        good games for wii?
I'm getting one today and wanna know which games are worth buying. If there's any that are on 360, I'll just get the 360 version instead.

Definitely get Bust-A-Move Bash, I really enjoy that one. Rampage: Total Destruction is a lot of fun with multiple players (lots of unlockables too), plus it's cheaper than the average Wii game. And of course, the Metal Slug Anthology was one of my "must own" games when I bought the system.

try super paper mario, one of the best games on the system IMO

If you can get them cheap, try rayman raving rabbits and red steel, which I quite enjoyed

Chojin's 'Eric and Emily' site has quite a few reviews which are worth checking out.

Personally I think the Wii is a gimmicky piece of crap. Each to their own, I guess.

I honestly couldn't think of anything that I wanted for my birthday and my mom kept pestering me about it so I said I wouldn't mind a wii. I was mainly thinking about the virtual console though because I'm not a fan of stuff like mario party or mini games of any kind. I forgot about metal slug. I'll have to pick that up.

Oh, didn't know you wanted Virtual Console suggestions too. In that case:

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Streets of Rage 2
Gunstar Heroes
Golden Axe
R-Type
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Sword of Vermilion

And of course there are plenty of NES classics to choose from.

Awesome. I have a buddy who's got a couple of those classic controllers that hook up to the wii-mote. How well do those work for the vc?

They hook into the wii-mote? I didn't know that, I just figured they hooked into the console itself. I hear the controllers work nicely but I've yet to buy any.

Oh, I'm not completely sure they hook in so I could be wrong. We were drinking at the time and I just looked at them briefly. I like that I can play my gamecube games on this.

I'd recommend Super Paper Mario.

Do you already have a gamecube? If not, then don't forget that getting a wii will open you up to those games, too.

I don't know if you're a Zelda kind of guy, but that's a good a wii game. Or you could get the gamecube version if swinging your remote around isn't your thing.

Trauma Center is a very decent game, but it does scream "THIS IS A HARDWARE DEMO" which I know might deter you. You don't seem to be looking for those kinds of games.

Avoiding first person shooters until Metroid Prime 3 might be good idea. Nintendo's been good about making games work with their controller, so hopefully they'll be the first to make a non-sucky wii FPS.

The Wii actually has a lot of good games, in my opinion. My favorites for the system are:

Super Paper Mario
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (this is not a traditional tony hawk game)
Mario Party 8 (best in the series)
Sonic and the Secret Rings

And other games that are still pretty good:

Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (a good game in spite of the dbz license)
Bust-A-Move Bash! (controls are PERFECT)
Trauma Center: Second Opinion (controls are PERFECT)
Elebits (fun with gravity)
Kororinpa: Marble Mania (Marble Madness on Wii)
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (if you're into that sort of thing)
Metal Slug Anthology (great games wrapped up in a shitty package)
Rayman: Raving Rabbids (some fun games, mostly good for big parties)
Redsteel (a lot of fun if you can stand the controls, also fun multi)
Warioware: Smooth Moves (also a big party game, not really worth it if you only have 1-2 regular players)

just tried Mortal Kombat Armageddon, the controls take geting used to but is fun once they stick, being a fan of MK: trilogy I'm enjoying this so far.

plus you can play with a gamecube/classic controller if you don't fancy the gesture stuff

the classic controller is dumb, because of the fact that it hooks into the wiimote, then you have that thing hanging on the end of the cord, just get wavebirds.

starfox 64 is out on virtual console now and the port went really well

also for anyone interested gamestop is having a big sale right now, most gamecube games are 10 bucks

MP8 is the only Mario Party where I could stand to play two 15-turn games in a row, and that's really really saying something. What makes it are the maps, which seem sort of queer at first (only one is traditional Mario Party) and prove to be much more fun. There's no more frustation of the star always evading you, constantly shifting and shuffling away. People are saying it's still too heavily influenced by chance and luck but, honestly, so are many board games. It's a whole bunch of luck, combined with a satisfying amount of strategy.

Super Mario Strikers is the only game I'm looking forward to as much as Smash Brothers right now :O
