Get any and all sharp objects out of the room before you read this excerpt from an article by "The Tipster" Kimberly Potts:

"With $311 million worldwide, it sets Indy 4 well on the way to becoming the most profitable film of the franchise and was the best opening for Ford of his career. And co-star Shia LaBeouf might want to get his head sized for a fedora, as those rumors of Indy 5 might be a bit more realistic now."

Temple may not be the best film, but it's my favorite.

so I had to see Kingdom- I'm still torn. John Hurt really was underused.
this old guy (60+) was there and said "what the fuck" when I was thinking it while the ******, and then he gets up puts on his hat (almost a fedora-gray) and storms out pissed when the *****.

as annoyed as I was, I'd still watch it in the theatre again. It's better than no new Indy
and on the bright side, Temple of Doom won't be the worst Indiana Jones anymore!

Ya, I'm partial to Doom as well. I really didn't like the new one. It was alright, but just way too dumbed down and over the top action.

The thing that sort of pissed me off the most was that it was a lazy write. All the other movies are stand alone, this one however was all nostalgia, big stunts and hat tips.

The whole formula was different. I get what they were trying to do, with the updating themes to suit the 50's, but it was just too much mindless action and no calm moments of Indy charm - like 'no ticket'. There was no substance, just a throw away action movie.

I can't fault the plot, as it's no less believable than face melting ghosts and heart snatching gurus.

I admit that the difference between killer ghosts and aliens isn't that tremendous in terms of realism, but it just seemed like something that didn't fit in the Indy-verse. Like he was dealing more with supernatural threats than extraterrestrial ones.

The part that pissed me off was the CGIrific alien and UFO. All the Indi-myths had mystery around them even after you were done watching the movie. This just showed everything they possibly could with the magic of cgi.

I believe they were updating feel to represent the decade, as they did in the previous installments. The serial feel of Temple and Arc, the go USA and anti-nazi feel in the third...the 50's were all about commies and ufo's.

I may just be giving them too much credit though...

I've seen it now too, and yep, some things truly sucked. Sucked hard. I wouldn't say it was all bad, in fact, if it wasn't an Indiana Jones movie, and if it had just a few small script rewrites, I think it wouldn't be judged as harshly.
But as it is, aliens wtf!? Monkeys wtf!? Shia Lasomething wtf!? Zomboid, you are absolutely right, Lucas should have kicked the bucket a long time ago.

If you've want to go to the theater with a date or some friends one night, go see it. I mean, it's entertaining enough to see. I'd strongly recommend sitting at the house, watching one of the originals, and having the option to fast-forward, stop, or drink till it's good.

Do you think it's just a little soon to be comparing Shia LaBeouf to Tom Hanks? Besides, it's one thing to be a likable, leading-man goof in comedies Joe Versus The Volcano, Bachelor Party, The 'Burbs, and Big; it's quite another to be a grating, sidekick goof in action/sci-fi movies like Constantine, I-Robot, Transformers, and Indiana Jones. I don't mind LaBeouf, but he's not in the same ballpark as Hanks, not even at a comparable time in Hanks' career. And he's certainly not the guy that should carry on the Indiana Jones franchise should they decide to keep it going.

Old Josh. What if Tom Hanks played little Josh, and the movie was really called Jack?

Shia LeBouf isn't old enough to play old Josh so your question is moot!

I gotcha, Sacks. Shia wasn't grating in Crystal Skull or Transformers, although Mutt was on the verge many times. He does annoy me at times, but that's just me. Tom's goofiness is tempered by his ability to do the serious stuff and his leading man credentials. LeBeouf isn't there yet. I understand your original point, now. I thought you were comparing them as performers and that isn't fair to Shia.

The more I think about it, the more I don't like the movie. Left a bad taste.

It was the prequels all over again. Lucas has lost his mind.

I enjoyed it. Temple of Doom for some reason is my favorite of the originals. I remember there was a discussion on that.
