Matt Daemon (of all people) gave a somewhat amusing interview in which he compared Palin's vice presidency to a bad Disney movie. You could just imagine McCain kicking the bucket leaving Palin to run the county in the style of an over-protective hockey mom - using her womanly wisdom to make decisions while knowing fuck-all about actual politics.

Sounds about right.

You should have all watched the Canadian leaders' debate that was on at the same time. Five party leaders sitting at a table getting into a free-for-all ruckus while citing specific examples rather than making vague references to stuff and repeating slogans.

That made me lol.

I'm going to do a service and provide the TLDR version upfront; Palin scares me.

Since she made herself available for MSM interviews she's only solidified the fact that she's not informed. She doesn't have her finger on the pulse. Her answers are shifty and reek like a cheap aftershave (NEW! Talking Points Aftershave - by Mennen).

I don’t fully blame Palin for being ignorant. I blame McCain for choosing her as a running mate in an effort to secure the female demographic held by Clinton. Why don't I blame Palin? She's from Alaska. Yes, Alaska IS America. But it's remote. Distant. Proxy.

Have you ever been to Alaska? It's crazy. I got off a plane and took a cab to downtown Anchorage. It was a brisk, sunny day and when I walked in a bar it was desolate. I peered out the windows and the streets were reminiscent of a modern Armageddon; empty. I asked the bartender what was happening and he informed me it was 2 o'clock.
"Yeah, so?" I said.
"It's two a.m.," he said. "I'm closed."

Let's get off our high horse and admit that not all states are equal. That's why people want to live in California and Florida. They have nice climates and less clothing requirements. Alaska? South Dakota? No competition.

And how long does it take to get current news in Alaska? Did you see the interview where Katie Couric asked Palin what news publications she reads? Palin couldn’t cite a s i n g l e source. Are you friggin’ kidding me? Say something, woman! Anything! NY Post? Washington Post? No? How about your local rag? Can't think of that one either, eh? Okay... do you at least read your church bulletin? Oh, you wrote it?

I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt – she’s from Alaska.

(As far as I'm concerned the state got a lot less interesting when Marty Beckerman departed for Washington.)

---------------------------------------

I spent 10+ years as a military public affairs specialist. I drafted communication points and training sessions for how to effectively maximize disclosure with minimal delay (was typically the opposite) and Palin sounds eerily similar to any one of the people who went through the training. Honestly, lots of politicians do. And in their defense, they don't realize they're being brainwashed. They're so happy to just be there. And their being crammed with information at a rate to intense they don't have time to ask questions.

"No, Commander. We don't want to inform the media that the nuclear spill plume is affected by wind direction; a more constructive approach is to tell them how we will contain the plume. Please reword your answer."

"Okay!"

I learned from the government how to collect data and information for historical purposes, and how to cater that information to conveniently omit FUBAR policy and events. The thought of an objective military historian is akin to pigs with wings.

I see Palin in my past experiences.

You know how I know Palin is bad? Her answers sound like answers I might give. And that's not acceptable. I expect people in her position to be able to cite specifics, understand the nuances of our economy and have a vested interest in how the machine works. She puts emphasis on keywords and catch-phrases (subconscious practices utilized to detract the viewer from the fact that the speaker is clueless) and I feel insulted when she speaks.

I try to remain non-partisan. I refuse to affiliate myself to a political party because I find the premise inherently unconstitutional. (google: Illusion of Choice, George Carlin) I am also a firm believer in accepting good practice, no matter which mouth spoke the truth. Palin has a few ideas right. She answered a few of the debate questions promptly and, and as Brokaw iterated about Biden prior to the start, in a succinct manner.

The McPalin stances that I agreed with were, in turn, concurred by the O'Biden ticket. What does that tell me? The public is going to receive the same treatment with these particular issues regardless who is in office. /shrug

Regardless of who is in office, we are a country run by deep pockets and special interest groups. How can an economy be engulfed in smoke with our elected officials so transparent, and we NOT see the truth?

I see the truth. Palin is bad.

Status quo begets economical degeneration.

I'm doing a Ron Paul write-in.

Most of the news outlets said that she did better than expected. Are our expectations of her really that low?

I can't believe that so many of the GOP talking heads still think she's the shit.

I hated how Palin would launch off into long tangents that ignored the topic. Biden actually reasked her a question and she reanswered something else. On the other hand, she and Biden both dodged questions to a degree, which is probably a political trick.

Personally, she cracked me and my brother up when she said "Nuclear" and "there you go again" (Ronald Regan anyone?)

Oh, and that whole bit about asking soccer moms about the economy? I really hate to seem like I'm stereotyping, but I really doubt that if you asked a soccer mom about the economy you'd get such a really long involved response.
