In my opinion (which nobody here would care about) is that giving the darker feel and mood of Batman Begins. I would think that the Joker should be, in a way, reimagined. Sure, he would still be the same, like how batman was the same batman in the movie. But Instead of making him a Cheesy villian. They should get someone who can do the laugh, and altough Mark Hammil was good in the cartoon, he just doesnt seem right for the new batman movies.

We need a Joker, who can laugh. Laugh in such a way that it will actually haunt you. Something along the lines of A horror movie villian's laugh. High pitched, yet with an Psychotic edge.

Batman is, in a Sense, NOT a superhero comic, it was originally a Detective comic with Gadgets. Play on that some more. Dont have batman go in Batarangs flying. Have him stalk, creep, and Frighten. It is in that regard that Batman Begins was Awesome, The director captured the original comics from the fifties while including Some of the Dark Brooding Atmosphere of the Tim burton movies.

I'm pretty sure most studios would just hire someone more suited for the role than edit every single scene with him in it to make him look younger.

An average young actor who might be able to actually put our doubts to rest (like they did with the guy playing the scarecrow in batman begins) is still more suited for the role than an old man who, let's face it, isn't a great live action actor. Being able to do a fucking maniacal laugh doesn't mean a goddamn thing if you're unable to do anything else with the role.

But that's what the Joker is, to me. An overracting batshit insane guy with no rhyme or reason. If you asked Hammill to just "act" and use the Joker voice, the worse he was at it, the more convincing a Joker he'd make.

Although now some other names have come up for who people would have wanted to see as The Joker. I'm also a fan of a few of thoses.

Bottom line is, I'm not sold on Ledger, but we'll see. Maybe he'll pull a Topher Grace and make me believe that nobody else BUT him could portray the character as awesomely.

I'd probably have agreed with that a few years ago when I hadn't read many comics with the joker and known a lot less about him. He IS completely fucking insane, but he's still got some charisma and has to be believably insane, if that makes any sense. What I'm trying to say is, some old dude who had his prime a couple decades ago and would just ham it up isn't exactly the perfect choice for one of the most profilic villains of all time. Maybe keeping the same spirit of batman begins and keeping the cheese factor toned down will allow people to forget about all the over the top shit in the schumacher batman movies.

Or the Burton movies.

Eh, just forget it. I would have liked to see Hammill, but if someone else were picked that I felt would do the job, I'd be happy. We'll see if Ledger isn't a total mistake.

Just thank God it's not Glover.

Didn't Mark Hammil say in an interview that he CAN'T do the Joker voice if anybody is watching him? Aside from all the myriad other reasons why he wouldn't be good for the part, that's a pretty good strike against him right there.

I don't know about Heath Ledger because I haven't really seen his acting chops in any role that reminds me of the Joker, but I guess with make up they could make him LOOK the part at least...but it seems to me that there are plenty of other people who already DO look the part very well (Glover for instance) AND have a healthy crazy streak running through them.

They did a good job with Batman Begins, so for now I have faith that they know what they're doing...but I am a little disappointed.

I remember everyone complaining when they announced Tobey Maguire was going to be Spider Man, and then it turned out that he was really good at playing the character.

Everyone is basing their opinions on what they've seen of Ledger act in so far. No one has seen the auditions he did for the Joker; Batman Begins was pretty damn awesome, so I'm sure the filmmakers know what they're doing for this.

I believe it's going to be a great movie regardless, because Batman Begins is easily my favorite superhero movie. The only thing is I can't picture Heath as the Joker because he just doesn't look the part at all. But who knows, maybe with the right make-up 'n shit, we'll see. Still, it's hard to be as excited about the Batman sequel now that I know Heath is the Joker instead of somebody else. I just hope he ends up proving the naysayers wrong and somehow pulls off an awesome Joker.

It is a little disappointing to find out that Heath Ledger will be the Joker. But I hope that he proves us wrong and the movie turns out really good.
