Old Dec 22nd, 2003, 12:28 AM        The upcomming OJ... uhhhh I mean saddam trial.
I'm not for one second trying to be pro-Saddam, but since when is it illegal for a dictator to be unjust? I've been pondering the upcomming Saddam trial and I've been wondering if all they can really find him guilty of is human rights violations. This trial seems as though it will provide nothing more then generic response to evil.

Yeah, I post in this forum now.

This trial holds endless potential for entertainment. First off, the late night references to guys like Cochran or other celebrity attornies representing him will be in surplus. Then there's the Saddam testimony. Not only is this guy going to point fingers at every Reaganite/Bush I/Bush II hold out he can, he's going to put on a cynical show for the ages, me thinks.....

Any trial at least pretending to be just will allow him to testify, and Court TV will insist upon it.

Especially when more little boys come forward to testify that his penis looks like a Zebra.

Yeah, I didn't even think of all this before. But wait, they can't try him for Human Rights violations unless it's in a court of the UN--because that's where these kinds of rules are made and enforced--can they?

I don't remember the media posting much about the Melosovic trial that went before the U.N. In fact that whole conflict seemed to have been swept under the rug after his apprehension ... same with Noriega down in Panama (except I don't think he faced the U.N.). Weren't their charges similiar?

I can't see how this trial will be exciting. Saddam is either going to be killed, put in prison, or killed Jack Ruby style. So why just put a bullet into his head and call it a day?

'Cause the timetable puts the trial around sweeps week. Currently, the networks are quickly trying to piece a Saddam reality show entitled ... man, I got no funny left.

I'm not so concerned about where or how he's tried. It's important, no doubt, but I think his fate will be the most important factor.

At this point, even if he is tried by an Iraqi tribunal, if they choose death it will be under the approval of the U.S. I'm not so sure that's the right message. Granted it will surely bring joy to those who despise the man, it will also further infuriate those who are already in opposition.

Once again it's sort of another "rock and hard place". In all honesty, I think the preference would have been for him to go out fighting or be killed in combat. Then we could have played the benevolent role and said we did it out of necessity. We had no choice. He would then have choosen the terms of his demise. Instead, it puts the burden of guilt, even through a second party, on us and once again expands our culpability in the eyes of Anti-American Arabs.

i'm betting saddam will either be assasinated, too sick to speak, or die 'accidentally' like maybe in a plane crash or attack on a convoy.
either way they won't let him testify in a normal state of mind, it would be too embarrasing for the bush administration if they let his side get out.

oh and a trial by iraq is fair? gee, who has picked the judge and jury?

i think the 'victors' should be on trial as well.. by a world court.. THAT would be fair.

Perhaps the media conspirators will bust out transcripts of Charlie Manson's prison banter and claim that those are Saddams words.
