Old Nov 5th, 2007, 06:11 AM        Retired general tells all
US troops will be in the Middle East for next 50 years, says Abazaid

Associated Press
Thursday November 1, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

US troops could be in the Middle East for another 50 years, according to the longest serving commander of the Qatar-based US Central Command.
General John Abazaid, who retired in May, said the "strategic situation" in the region - the rise of extremism and the global dependence on oil - would necessitate a long-term presence. "Over time, we will have to shift the burden of the military fight from our forces directly to regional forces, and we will have to play an indirect role.

Like we do after every conflict?

Hell, we have had troops in the MidEast for a few decades now.

Another case of numbnuts not fully reading or thinking about what someone is saying and twisting it to fit his own sick fantasies.

so our presence in the middle east is only going allow extremism to flourish and cause the prolonging of our stay isn't all that controversial? please dont tell me it wasnt presicely planned for us to idle by for the next 50 years because we are becoming more dependent on energy resources. get back to me in 5 years and let me know if things has gotten any better by then.

He doesn't say that. He says because of the rise of extremism we'll have to maintain a presence. He doesn't pin our presence as its main cause. Muslim extremism has seen a steady rise since after WWI.

More extreme versions of Sunni Islam call for the return of the Caliphate that extended from Central Asia to the Pyrenees Mountains.

Do you honestly think this fight is brand new?

Wasted energy, Blanco. You're debating the I-Mock version of a Viagra spam e-mail.

I think there should be a Geggy Clause in that case.

You would learn more from the phone book, Chojin.

The problem with that Chojin is that Blanco and I, especially Blanco, have tried that with him. It's pointless. He refuses to really engage, and prefers to spam the board with his poorly informed talking points. He's really kind of useless.

Take this article--as Blanco points out, the retired gneral isn't actually saying what Geggy is. I can't count how many times Geggy has done this, his own brand of retarded paraphrasing and distortion. We have wasted time on this planet trying to debate Geggy, and he refuses.

So we have fun with him instead.

ok... in the Marine Battle Hymn "the shores of Tripoli" are mentioned... ever wonder where that came from? From this country's very founding we have had trouble with criminals hiding behind Islam. US Troops have been involved in the unrest associated with radical Islam since US troops have existed. Back then they were known as Barbary States... or states adhered to Barbarism. What's changed?

This goes way back to before WW1, Kev. This is just the re-emergence of a battle between the future and the past that existed as long as humans have had any sort of concept of ideology.

How can someone who obviously thinks so much of their ideas have so little respect for expressing them? How can someone who so yearns to be taken seriously make so little effort?!

Sounds like a great plan, actually.

Having a global presence is necessary for immediate reaction to terrorism, to pacifying dictators and murdering their bureaucratic death machines; it is necessary to securing free markets and fighting socialism and religious fundamentalism.

If you were playing a game and trying to construct the most dominant nation, wouldn't you want troops in the middle of a hot spot?

And aren't we the good guys? Or are you all about sectarian violence, Islamo-fascism and instability? Driivng the Jews into the sea and all that?

Seriously, whereabouts does your foolishness stand.
