I just read a review for it. Sounds like the opinions will be fairly mixed, depending on attention span and knowledge/interpretation of the original story (it's a very loose adaptation). Something tells me though that since it's so epic in terms of production, it'll be overrated by critics just because of how much was put into it.

How much you want to bet that it won't stay true to Homer, won't be historically accurate and that the sets and costumes will be from the wrong era?

(Yes, there is archeological evidence that there really was a city called Troy and really was sacked by the Greeks)

Yup. Achilles was very much apart of the battle. Completely invunerable, except for his heel, which was where he was held as a child when they dipped him into some river, thereby making him essentially invincible.

And he's also a homosexual.

Unfortunately, one of the examples of the loose adaptation I was referring to, is that they've basically taken all the mythological elements out of the movie. Achilles isn't so much invulnerable, as he is a really great fighter. And they also apparently made it quite a point to make him not homosexual in the movie.

If he was a homosexual, why did he refuse to fight when Agammemnon took Chryseis from him?

Probably because of all the sex he has with men?

I've not read the story myself, but in the review, it said that it's been interpreted by even Shakespeare that Achilles and Patroculos were lovers.

Wasn't totally bad, but very, very much Hollywood. Pretty much everything was changed...but it was pretty fun to watch.

Homor wrote about Troy 1000 years after it happened also I belive.

The River Styx, the river which was the boarder to the land of the dead.

Mostly, only the soilders. And not really gay, more like Hetrosexual.
The leaders encouraged the gayness though, the gay men fought harder for their "boy" then for a leader.

The movie was fine,

The movie was pretty good, but there were a lot of things that were changed, although that's understandable for a Hollywood movie.

Patroclus doesn't steal Achilles' armour; Achilles gives it to him to use with the warning not to fight the Trojans, only chase them away. Achilles wasn't one of the ones who jumped out of the Trojan Horse in the real story because he had already been killed by Paris. Ajax killed *himself* (rather than get killed by Hector) because the Gods decreed that Odysseus would inherit Achilles' armour. Paris doesn't get to escape Troy because he is killed by Philoctetes, the greatest Greek archer. Menelaus is NOT killed and returns to Sparta with Helen, who decides that she really doesn't love Paris afterall and just wants to go home. Agamemnon isn't killed until he gets back home.

Kinda complicated to relate in a 2.5 hour movie; an accurate portrayal would require a LoTR length film, especially since the actual seige of Troy was supposed to have lasted for 10 years, not a few weeks like it is done in the movie.

Overall, it's entertaining, though. The fight scenes aren't as good as Gladiator, but still near the top.

Also, the way I heard it, Ajax didn't use a warhammer, he just took two big rocks and bashed peoples' heads between them. Which would have been a lot cooler. Also, wasn't Chryseis the preistess girl, who then had to be returned to her father, and Briseis was stolen from Achillies by Agammemnon?

Also, Paris and Hector weren't brothers, were they?

I though Ajax had a sword that he committed suicide by hurling himself onto?

And Achilles wasn't stabbed in the ankle, he was hit with an arrow in the ankle.

On a side note, I just saw some photos from the movie, and the armor looks relatively accurate. At least that wasn't butchered with the rest of it.

The armor?

The Greeks fought naked. They didn't wear armor.

The ones who fought naked were the ones who got killed first, so they eventually put it on the "stupid things to do" list.
