Are you doing for a job what you always wanted to do? Or at least something you kinda wanted to do?

I'm writing and editing an online political site, and I recently got to be on one of the cable networks being a talking head and stuff. I get to work from home.

The pay sucks, but a year ago to the day I was in a job that was making me really depressed and ill. So, a year makes a difference.

I can't believe you haven't posted any Youtube links for that. That's the norm here for anyone with a TV appearance.

Sadly, I did not catch it (I don't watch cable news much myself), and my buddy who tried messed it up. I do have a video that Fox had on their site, but it was protected so that i couldn't embed it anywhere.

Try this out.

And actually, if there's a way to catch this stuff without a TV, I'd be glad to know. I'll probably be on again.

Doopa, thanks for asking.

I managed to finally land the job of my dreams. I don't like to talk about exactly what it is over the internet, I know that sort of thing is dangerous. However, I can tell you that I get to make people's lives better and use my engineering knowledge of electrical systems in the process. I didn't end up in the military like I thought I would, but I am glad about that.

The first of the products I worked on will release in 2008 (so soon now!!!) I am actually finishing my degree right now, but I switched between work and school several times. I already signed on for a permanent position, but I will finish school soon and start there. If you want to give me a call, I am willing to tell you over the phone what I worked on. You'd probably be surprised, and you can go check it out then and see what you think. I worked really hard to make a good product for everyone.

I've been there. I'm rapidly approaching the one year point with my job that I got to go back to school (Masters, baby!) and I'm glad my last job is over with. I thought I was getting ulcers dealing with the losers there, but after I dropped them like a bad habit I've been doing better.

I'm still not where I want to be in life, but I'm getting there. Slowly and surely.

I'm 31, I guess that qualifies as being 'old'.

I've been fortunate. I've done everything I've ever wanted to do career-wise. I worked in the funeral business, joined the circus, and traveled the world. I then helped to revitalize the downtown of my hometown by establishing an arts district and managing an art gallery. I also implemented youth oriented art programs and was a member of the Downtown Metro revitalization board of directors.

Today, I still perform from time to time, my site garners international attention and I currently work in the local music and film industries. Come February, I am finally launching my own advertising/marketing firm, with full government support and funding.

Career-wise, life is good.

Hmm. I'm in the period where the image is crystallizing that I'm not at all where I'd like to be in my life, and it will furthermore require a fair amount of time before I might be able to get there.

Basically, the first concise mental image of myself at age 23 involved me being in an illustrious grad school program on track to becoming a professor of multiple subjects. However, I'm working a little bit over minimum wage trying to get back into a mediocre college experience that I might eventually return to a better college experience, and thenceforth proceed to an illustrious grad school program.

The recurring problem, however, is that academia has a strong aversion to crazies.

This is one of those threads where Re tries to bring herself down, but brings a lot of other people down with her. Thanks a lot, Re.

And this is a post where I try to make Re feel bad so she'll pester Rog for the entire weekend.

I had jobs wear I liked what I was doing, Ie: Baker, Electrition, Movie Theater Asst. Manager...
Then after awhile you just hate it. I can't stand the smell of fresh bread, I hate wiring shit, the smell of popcorn makes me ill.

It's better to have a job where your just alright doing it, and keep you favorite things to do as hobbies.

I had to take a pay cut, but I'm now doing something I absolutely love. Sucks that it took 31 years to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, but I couldn't be happier.

It is super secret, so I can't tell you what it is. BUT IT'S BIG.

I'm doing pretty good, I think. The company I did my co-op terms with hired me before I had even finished my degree and I got a sweet corner office on the fourth floor with a bit of a view. :D

Is it the most exciting stuff in the world? No, not really, but it's challenging at times which is really all I could have hoped for from an entry level position in software development. I'd hate to be wasting my degree making websites or answering tech support calls for someone.

I've moved up the ladder a fair bit over the last two years (over 230 people in the company) and I get paid more than all my friends and my benefits are pretty sweet. The only way I could really get a better job is to move to a different city.

If you mean making a career out of being a student, then no.

I've never really had a stable, crystallized idea of what I want to do. I imagine I'll bounce around a bit before I die. I think it's better for me this way, honestly. I intend to be flexible.

That being said, what I'll do will most likely involve the arenas of medicine (most likely brain/mind-related disciplines), health policy, global health, ethics and philosophy, and research. This may seem to leave things wide open but I have some more specific ideas in mind. I'm pretty comfortable with this working plan.
