I applied for a warehouse style job. If any of you have been to a Value Village store before, you probably know the drive through donations shed. We take in donations, bring them in the back. This includes furniture, tv's, games, game systems, etc. Last night I couldn't get a desk through the back door into the garbage, so I got to bash it apart with a sledgehammer.

I'm hopefully going to be working at a comic book shop soon. So try to listen to these folks, they're right ya know! But in all honesty keep your nose clean, chin high, and don't smell like rotten ass. And don't smoke a cigarette before the interview. That will make you smell like cigarettes which can be as bad or worse than rotten ass.

I am currently looking for a techician who has some expertise in the field of industrial automation. It's a traveling position, your territory would be all of North and South America. You would be working on robotic screwdriving and riviting equipment.

Try not to put every single job you've ever had, especially if you didn't work there very long. 2 weeks at burger king is not impressive to a potential employer.

Perndog was right though, temp agencies are decent depending on where you go. Just make sure your resume isn't a fucking wreck and look nice when you go in. I used to work in a staffing agency so i know these things . A lot of them will give you testing on excel and word too so make sure you know those things! OH and some of those jobs quitting with no notice is still not wise, i'm not sure what kinds of positions you had to be doing that perndog :/

I never did it personally, but my understanding is that it's agreed that either party can terminate employment at any time without advance notice. Calling the day you plan not to show up, at least, is expected, but we've had a handful of temps in my office at Target quit suddenly with no hard feelings. Maybe some other companies aren't so tolerant about this.

Then start off with a job at McDonald's or some shit to prove that you CAN work. Making $6/hour is better than not getting paid at all. No one's going to pay you $20/hour unless its your dad and he's trying to get tax write-offs.
This is true to the point it's disturbing. I've been at Mickie D's since Feb. and I'm almost a manager. Kinda ironic because I haven't eaten McDonald's in nearly 15 years.

McDonald's has really high turn-over so if you've been there for more than six months you're probably a god to the new people.

Regarding the temps quitting without any notice stuff, it's allowed as far as I know due to the nature of the contracts. Either party can terminate it without any notice, but it makes the temp company look bad if the people they send out start quitting all over the place with no notice. I wouldn't expect an favours after doing something like that.

What it's good for is continuing to look for a permanent job while you're temping and telling people in interviews that you can start immediately.

If you got a driver's licence, you could always shoot for forklift driver on UPS. Simply put, once you hit the union, you'd have to work to get fired.

Yeah, but the downside to any union is high fees and a stressful environment, not to mention that all of this implies that you have a long-term association with the company itself. If you're looking for a better job, this might play against you.
