Just because you are strapped for insults and too stupid to make any, doesn't mean you should go ahead and try anyway since everyone else is. He wasn't inspired from a cyborg ninja, because he clearly isn't a ninja. Here is the bottom line to pay attention to: Robots are easy to draw. They take no skill or attention to proportions, since robots can look however you draw them.
What the deal with this drawing was, is that it probably was going to be a detective of some sort to begin with, but since he was having trouble making it look human, it started to look like a robot (since robots
of course, can look however you want and say it purposeful). So he went with making it into a robot since everything he draws looks like a "robot" any way (meaning they look nothing like he originally intended), and then just made it into a old character.
Now, it is clear he is a developing artist, and I don't expect him to be perfect, but I haven't once seen a complete "drawing" from him. They have all been almost entirely sketch, or sketch quality type drawings, that have not been polished or had any detail work put into them. But that is fine I guess, since I myself have only just started drawing anything other than doodle's in class. But the differance is, that I have never posted a doodle that I made on the back of my trig quiz.
My advice is to draw actual objects, and real life things first. Only after you have some practice in reality, can you move on to the deformed world of imaginary characters.
