Old May 8th, 2003, 10:26 AM        Bush and Blair for Nobel's Peace Prize? WTF!
A Norwegian politician just formally suggested to the Nobel commitee that Bush and Blair should receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

They might as well, I guess; they gave one to Arafat, didn't they?

Let's make it even more meaningless by giving it to those that start wars! Yay!

The Nobel Prize is inherently ironic because Nobel himself is the man who invented dynamite. So, I guess it's sort of appropriate to nominate a couple of war-hawks.

I don't see why anybody would want an award that Henry Kissinger won. A murdering, war-waging bastard being given a Peace prize named after a guy who invented an explosive is a veritable black hole of irony. So dense, no logic can escape it.

In Nobels's defense, he invented dynamite to be used to clear land for building and things like that, not for annihilating groups of people.

The reason he developed the trust for the prize was that he was horrified at what humanity had done to his invnetion and wanted to encourage non-violent intellectual endeavors. I can respect that but I have to question the intelligence of a man who develops an exploding chemical compound and doesn't realize that, ultimately, it's going to be used to kill people.

So, by extension, should we cease all research into fusion reactors, because ultimately they could be used for creating a destructive device? With that logic, we should have never advanced beyond the dark ages.

Don't get me wrong. I agree with the sentiment of the prize. It's just the fact that he seemed suprised at the direction his invention went. I mean that we're talking about human nature here. If anything, it reminds us of the fact that with knowledge and technological advancement comes responsibility. Ironically, though, some of the most useful technology to benefit peacetime humanity came as a result of technology that was based on wartime need. :/

Do you have a link? I can't find anything. If this is true, it makes me a sad fucking panda. I wish they could give the nomination authority over to the Swedes. We sure as hell can't make any decitions.

Someone on another message board who lives in Norway mentioned it. Maybe he saw it on the local news I'm guessing.

- The responsibility doesn't rest with Nobel, but rather wartime profiteers like the Dupont family of the U.S.

:/ - One wartime invention is the computer, and look at it today, we have these assclowns that have access to them.
