ta-da. this is the new school i now get to go to starting monday, curtisy of the move and everything going on. it's in virginia and the weired thing is it's grades 8-12. that means my brother is going to be in high school with me next year

BTW, the grades in virginia are: elementary 1-4, middle 5-7, high 8-12

in maryland (where we r comin from) it's: elementary 1-5, middle 6-8, high 9-12

grrrr, their mascot is the trojans and they don't even have latin, that's my fav. subject

My Citys College is on drugs.

We dont have Middle school here. So it is just Elementary K-8 and High 9-12.

this is because you live in canada, thats the system here

edit: there also used to be grade 13, which was called OAC here, but thats gone now, i was part of the last year they did it

It depends on which county you're in as well. In Fairfax county, Middle School was 7-8.

In the United States, they stick pupils where they have room for them. Simple as that. There are no "rules" guiding what levels are allocated where, it's just convention that there be three levels.

in my city (southern virginia), middle school is grades 7 - 9.

We allway's had grade's k-6 (elementary) 7-9 (jr. high -not "middle") 10-12 (high school) my brother and sister went this route and i was to follow, it was "set in stone" it was the plan. then we moved a couple city's over, that's when thing's changed...
i came home one day from "9thgradehighschool" and looked at myself in the mirror and discovered i was an alien from another planet.. and have been ever since.

(but somewhat remedied since i moved back to the area "sorta")

We have a strange system over here.

Firstly you have the choice between public and private schools.

School begins at age 4, this is normally where they play with paint and dressing up. Then it gets tough from 5 onwards. So primary school, as it is refered to is ages 4-7.

Middle school is ages 8-10 and secondary school is 11-16.

Now it gets complicated, there are variations on this, some schools go from 4-11, others from 4-16 etc. This is because the government are attempting to abolish grammer schools (where the really clever kids go) and stick everyone in a comprehensive which is meant to help all pupils whatever their ability. However, where I live, the schools are poor so I had to go private and it was tough.

What do I mean by poor? Well... lets try and give examples, basically there are disruptive kids that have been taken out of the special schools that help them with their disruptive behaviour and just bundled into normal schools. Add to the mix children who are on drugs, alcohol, who have difficult family lives and well is it any suprise that so many teachers in this country leave within five years.

Not all schools are bad, its just so difficult to teach in the ones that are. I don't know if I could be a teacher and get abuse every day like they do. Its so sad that they can't do anything about it.

It's K-6, 7-9 and 10-12 where I live, but they're rearranging some stuff so it's going to be K-5, 6-8 and 9-12. They figure the Grade 9's can hack it with the big boys, but I think they're wrong.
