Old Nov 6th, 2003, 09:17 AM        Is there a Doctor in the house?

This is behind my knee. That circled area is where there is a lump. I bruise easy so I am a bruise connoisseur, but this bruise (if that's what it is) is weird. The lump is small width wise and doesn't feel puffy or anything. It sort of feels like a pebble. The bruised areas don't hurt like bruises usually do. And the bottom bruise has weird cappilary things radiating out of the lumpy thing.

Anyone ever had something like this? WTF is going on here

1. blood clot
2. cyst
3. just a bruise
4. something else?

I'd go to the DR, but... you know....

I will probably just slice it open with a razor if it doesn't go away and see what's inside

It looks like a bruise of some sort. If it gets worse, apply for citizenship in Canada, get your health card and then choose doctor to take a look at that thing.

It might be a popliteal cyst.

http://images.google.com/images?q=tb...stepoplite.jpg

Might be best to wrap the knee, maybe ice it down from time to time and rest it. If it persists you might to get fluid drained from it. Occasionaly they need surgery to be removed.

But yours seems small enough and will probably go away on its own..

Christ, do any of you people have an "off" switch?

Doopa, I'd seriously just suck it up and consult a doctor (free clinic?) after a few days of monitoring it. Given the position, I don't think it's wise to be cutting anything (wouldn't think it wise to begin with).

I'd go the free clinic route as well... or there are some other clinics that aren't free but the visit is usually under $100... at least call around and see what your options are at this point. Sometimes the clinics will even give you free antibiotics (they get the sample packs from manufacturers that they will give you for free, so you don't have to worry about getting antiBYEotics or some crazy offbrand crap).

I would avoid slicing it at all costs, though.

What I think he meant is that some people here can't not be facetious. And I completely agree with that. I think it's great that some people think they can bring laughter to the world, but when the height of somebody's comic ability is "poke it with a stick," then they need to let it fucking die.

And that sounds like a cyst to me.

That looks like a tick bite to me. Ticks and similar blood suckers like the skin on the back of your knees because its so thin.

You have something against people who poke things with sticks Les Waste? Sure, it's not a glamour job, but it's GOT to be done GOD DAMMIT!!!

But really, you could just be having a allergic reaction to some sort of insect, or arachnid. Some types of spider bites inflate, and as it is getting colder, more and more bugs and spiders move indoors.

crapper

well, I am still trying to figure out if it's life threatening (that's the only reason I care). I called my mom about maybe it being an anurysm (sp?) but doesn't seem to be that.

This chick I work with is in her final semester of nursing school, so I showed it to her. She definately seemed to think it was something weird (ewww, wtf reaction), but didn't match up with a classic blood clot.

She also said I should go to a free clinic place here. You have to get there damn early monday. They only take appointments monday morning and they fill up for the week in like 15 minutes she said. So that will suck. I only have the interest to do so if I think it's something that could kill me like cancer or a blood clot.
She said chances are they will just tell me to go see a specialist if they think it's something to worry about. Then I'd have to pay for that anyway. So yeah.... I dunno what I am gunna do yet. She warned me not to cut it open because she said there are arteries back there. fucknutter

If it's just a cyst and I go through all that trouble I will be pissed!
