Old Mar 6th, 2003, 01:48 AM        DELETING PORN
I know you bastards are super pervy. That's neither here nor there, and if you choose to rub peanut butter over your genitals, I can accept that - buuuuuut, there's a porn VIDEO on my fucking computer and I need to erase its entire existence COMPLETELY. The only thing stopping me is the fact that I'm also completely computer illiterate.

Background: File was downloaded from Kazaa, went into Video folder. I tried deleting the entire folder, but right clicks don't work. So I went in, deleted the single file and it vanished. I can't find it anywhere but I know the bastard is hiding out, waiting for the perfect moment to incriminate me.

The upshot of it all is that I really do need your help. I'm willing to be ultra nice, or at least civil, to anyone who can and will help. Thanks girls.

My usefulness will come in time. Until then i will continue to succesfully delete files from kazaa despite the large intelluctual capacity it requires.

Dude...even if you empty the recycle bin the file will still be there, or at least there are a big probability it still will be.

When you delete a file windows only 'marks' it as deleted, it will only go away if you overwrite it with another file.

that´s why there are programs that are able to recover 'lost' data, the safest way to get rid of it would be to use a magnet or something, downside to this is you really can´t pinpoint the exact location on the hard drive...

tough luck.

That sounds like bull to me. I think what you're thinking of is the computer's History. Even when a file's deleted, its name can pop up in various places as a dead link. Just go into your Internet tools and wipe the History clean.

intelluctual.

i heard this article on npr a few months ago. these guys at mit, i believe, went into a ton of old, thrown-away computers to see what information they could amass. it turned out that even the computers the previous owners thought had been completely erased still held much personal information.

Hyperbole, but based on truth. Delete doesn't erase the sectors, in windows. In good ol' msdos, the erase function did just that :geek

Oh, and if you deleted it from the folder and the recycle bin, judging from the way KazaA works, there's nothing to worry about.

Shift + Delete does it for me. Honestly, though, why does it have to be GONE? Once it's out of plain sight, it's very doubtful people are going to go scoping through your drives looking for deleted files. :/

It translates into:

I DOWNLOADED SOME ILLEGAL KIDDIE PORN AND THE FEDS IN MY AREA ARE CRACKING DOWN ON THAT SHIT SO I NEED TO GET RID OF IT BEFORE I END UP TOSSING THE SALAD IN LOCKUP.

Well, that's MY best guess, anyway. I don't see why else you'd need to put so much IMPORTANCE on deleting something.

Once it's deleted from the folder in Kazaa, I don't know where it goes. It doesn't go to the recycle bin - I looked. So...

Anyways, to hell with it. Thanks kids.

Yeah, because the "Joined: 02 Feb 2003" under your name isn't a dead giveaway.

Still, if you don't post ever again, it'll be too soon. And take your baby snuff porn with you.

Jamesman: You're boring and your remarks, which I have no doubt you find scathing, are forced. Shuddup, girl.

Anybody who doesn't know who Hughbristic is is a newbie.

And Hugh, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's deleted, odds are nobody will ever bother to be resourceful enough to dig it up from the hidden recesses of your hard drive.

Oh, I'm supposed to know who Hugh is? Well, I imagine the name seems vaguely familiar, but I don't really make a point to distinguish one generic idiot from another. So forgive me if I don't bow down before you, just because you spent more time in the community than some of us may remember.

I'm confused. But fine. I jumped the gun, and I'll be nice. Unless Hugh gives me a reason to make fun of him/her/it.

Somehow, this is funny coming from the person that invented the "newbie types" :P
