Okay, so since I've left my college radio station and gotten a job in the "real world," I've fallen away from music happenings and new releases, etc. I never realized how spoiled I was, until I left school. :/

So anyway, anybody have some good suggestions? Let's just go ahead and get it out of the way: No, mtv.com doesn't count. No, neither does buddyhead.com.

There have been enough good releases in the last fifty years that you should never need to know what's new. The only news worth knowing is who's playing where and when, and you can get that info from local venues.

I still read pitchforkmedia.com despite the fact their reviews can be shit. Lots of good news on new releases though.

allmusic.com - Good for general music reference.

epitonic.com - This one has free mp3s. It has a lot from essential artists and new underground stuff.

pitchfork makes me cringe. i even had the bastards checked as my homepage a few years ago, but now anytime i go there my asshole explodes. and epitonic has put up, like, 15 new mp3's in the past four years.
allmusic.com can be surprisingly good for older stuff, but for new music i stick to blastitude, desiderata, and oppobrium as far as online stuff goes. for print zines, i always pick up the new bananafish and broken face, as well as occasionally thumbing through the wire and signal to noise at the bookstore while my girlfriend looks around.

For print magazines, No Depression is the shit.

I like No Depression, but it tends not to cover everything I'm looking for....

Thanks for the suggestions, folks!
