Old Aug 17th, 2004, 04:31 PM        SNL back on E!
Just saw it while flipping through the channels.

Anyone know the extent of the deal? It was an older episode with Will Ferral and Molly Shannon, and I thought E!'s old deal had them showing more recent episodes.

Yes and no. E! was showing newer episodes of SNL for a while, then when Comedy Central got Mad TV (HAHAHAHA), E! was the only place where you could see SNL. Not long after, it was gone.

According to Jixby, E! made a comment about SNL on a special of theirs that Lorne Michaels and/or NBC didn't like, so their deal was off.

Now it's back, and I was just wondering what the deal was.

From what i usderstood, it wasn't a comment that got it pulled, but that "100 most outrageous SNL moments" thign E! made that wasn't part of their contract so lorne sued them. :/

comedy central used to have the rights to every season to snl. When season 27 was up for grabs, E got it for whatever reason. They also got the first 5 seasons, comedy central wasn't showing them anyway. So for a while, comedy central just had seasons 6-26 to show, and they didn't stray too far out of the 90s.

Then, like hound said, they made some kind of clip special, and it wasn't part of their contract.

So did Comedy Central voluntarily give up airing SNL, and what is the deal between E! and NBC now?

They lost the bid, thats why they got madtv, which was to them "the next best thing", too bad that show sucks.

I don't think Comedy Central would give up the show they played at least 3 times a day.

Those were the days

I watched it today, and I can safely say that I saw the episode with David Hyde Peirce with Musical Guest Live, at LEAST 40 times since i first aired.
