Nah its just that too many people are trying to activate at once. The steam server is probably totally overloaded.

I know. Hackers are stupid. This would have been the excellent time to DoS valve's authentication servers. Can you imagine? A couple of people frustrating the entire world! But nah... they're probably hacking greasy porn site and installing linux on their waffle irons.

I think all of this is hilarious. Why the fuck would you make a game that you have to authenticate online to play? It's just going to be cracked like every other game anyway, and it's going to inconvenience everyone that actually does pay for it.

Not to mention the problems with people selling their copy to a friend of theirs, etc.

the same reason microsoft does it.

it did stop people from playing it early as well, since it wasnt cracked yet.

That's not how Steam works. You have to validate every time you want to login and play online. In order to do that, you need a valid CD key.

And if Valve was smart like I hope they were, they have a list of all the keys that they know they've released. None of that "well, if it hashes properly, it must be good" garbage.

steam wont let you play the single player, until your hl2 has been activated at least from my understanding.

If you don't have an Internet connection by now, you probably don't have a computer that's good enough to run HL2, anyways.

MetalMilitia's live has been pretty uneventful.

The game is good. It plays well, it has it's share of innovative gameplay tricks, it looks great (dunno what chojin was talking about how this game is ugly) and the storyline so far is interesting, if not a bit slow-going. I've been playing for 10 hours straight or so, and I'll leave the rest of the game for tommorow. There's places where you get really scared, places where you get excited, and so far only a few bits where you get frustrated (at least on 'hard' difficulty, on which I'm playing it on, because I am not gay). So worth the wait? Hmm... well, it would have to be the second coming to live up to the hype, and it's not. It's what anyone looking at it level-headedly would expect it to be. It expands on the first game's strong points, and that's it.

Might pick up amazingly in the last quarter of the game, though.

The gravity gun is really fun.
