While there has only been one superpower for some time, how can we tell when this is going to change? History will perhaps see the events leading from the September 11 attacks as the starting point to a redistribution of power.

American interests are more than ever manifesting themselves offshore and to a global extent. While the United States has always had its hand in conflicts that stem far beyond its borders those interests have usually been seen within a global power system that did not have only one superpower.

From the downfall of Russia as a superpower status we are only left with one state that has the power base to truly command global authority, to a limited extent. American interests now reveal themselves as pertinent to almost every state. Does this leave its foundations weaker to attack? Or strengthen that power base?

The war in Afghanistan and the War in Iraq are obviously pertinent to reviewing all our conceptions about the United States time line as the single most powerful nation of this age. I have no answers but I think that this current power system will fall when we all least expect it.

I think without massive redirection, we are currently walking a path the former USSR walked, ie. bankrupting ourselves with an indefensible foreign policy and an unsupportable military.

Hey, like it or not, one country is going to be the go-to guy of the future. I'd much rather it be U.S. than them.

here goes more conspiracy folks..

i think the plan IS to bankrupt the states and cities little by little creating all the spin possible to keep people fighting racist classist battles over the scraps that are left to keep the people from being organized enough to take back the republic, all the while the corporations continue to globalize and continue to run out the back door with our cash.

i really think they even want to do away with civilian police and move toward a cheaper military force to 'keep the peace' inside america.. is the national guard cheaper than the police? certainly a mercenary force is more expensive than the police but have less chances of finding something morally wrong with firing on a public rally. 'its just a job' yaknow.

this is just how i read between the lines.. i'm still hoping for the fear tactics of the administration to backfire but i'm not encouraged by the news like fcc rulings and lack of high up attacks on ftaa and the g8 etc. the next election will say an awful lot.

I think that corporate globalization is going to run rampant and all the rent-a-cop security people are going to unite to form real live militia's in order to protect the fudiciary interests of Forbes 500 companies. Nationalism is slowly going to evolve into coporatism. Let me be the first to hoist the flag of the Republic of General Motors.
