I-Mockery Pays A Visit To The 2014 Game Developers Conference! GDC!
by: -Roger Barr

Last year, I attended the Game Developers Conference (or GDC) for the very first time and had a great time checking it out. Having just released our new Bionic Chainsaw Pogo Gorilla game for Adult Swim, I had some free time on my hands and decided to take a nice drive up to San Francisco to see all the latest happenings in the game industry at GDC 2014. With that in mind, here's a large pictorial of all the newest games, gadgets, attractions, and anything else that was on display at GDC this year. Enjoy!

Arriving at GDC. Huzzah!

Always nice to get a view from above before descending into the chaos.

Sony's booth from above.

One of the many motion capture demonstrations taking place at GDC.

I'm sure he's having a blast experiencing Facebook in true 3D.

Holy Crap! Clearly this was the best free swag to be found at the convention.

British Columbia, Canada approves of Bald Bull and Piston Honda, so I approve of them.

This was one of the more interesting demonstrations.
Virtuix Omni lets you actually walk in place to control your character in the games.

You have to wear these special shoes to make it work.

As you can see, when combined with an Oculus and a gun controller, it can create a really unique gaming experience.

Good question. You can find out the answer if you play Neverending Nightmares when it comes out later this year.

Had a good time chatting with my chums from Juicy Beast and playing their new game, Toto Temple Deluxe.
If you're a fan of the frantic multiplayer chaos of BattleBlock Theater, I'm sure you'll enjoy this game too.

Duck Game - an arena death match game involving a wide variety of ducks. I'm sold.

Onward to the IGF Pavilion to check out more independent game goodness.

I got to meet the guys from Amanita Design and I've always been a huge fan of their games from Samorost to Machinarium. Unbeknownst to me, they've been working on Samorost 3 and my god is it beautiful.

No seriously, their games always look incredible, and this appears to be their best work yet.

I hope we'll start seeing some of these Samorost plush toys up for sale in the future as well.

Towerfall Ascension looking good as well.

Here's another game that I really liked the concept of:
Crypt of the Necrodancer has you control your character in time with the rhthm of the music as he crawls through
dungeons 'n what have you. Everybody was having a blast with it and the music was absolutely stellar.

The minimalist monochromatic style of of Paralect is something I can definitely appreciate. Nice game.

I'll always love the sundown color palette of Westerado - another fun game release by our pals at Adult Swim.

Good times with the madness that is Jazzpunk.

Trolls vs. Vikings honestly looked like a carbon copy of Plants vs. Zombies from what I watched.

Server Challenge II is a lot of fun to watch. You have to plug in all the cables and rack drives to see who can
complete it the fastest. Cool idea, even if it's not the kind of game we'll ever get to enjoy at home.

Loved the visuals in Stick It to The Man, a new game where the lead character has one of those novelty
sticky hands from grocery store vending machines as the primary weapon protruding from his head.

Can't have a gaming convention without at least a little Mario.

This girl was having a great time dancing in a motion capture suit.

More live design software demonstrations.

Some guy dressed as a ghost being followed by an old man with green hair.
Look, I don't pretend to understand these things, I just document them.

There's still plenty more from
GDC 2014 to see!

The omni thing is kind of neat, but is strafing possible with it? If special shoe technology was this advanced in the 80s/early 90s they'ed be called POWER shoes.

Ducttapefury - Yeah, from what I saw, strafing would definitely be possible with it. And they should absolutely call them Power Shoes.
