A BIOGRAPHY
Born in a log cabin in rural Miami Beach, Steve
gave up a life of raising trees and chopping down sheep to pursue his dream of becoming an
international diplomat.
After the triumph of beating back Hitler in WWII,
Steve's hopes for a unified Europe were crushed when the iron curtain descended. He then
turned to a brief career in national politics, highlighted by his controversial proposal
to tax verbs.
Shortly thereafter, Steve dropped out of public
life to pursue a career in music, where he specialized in electric slide rule and his
trademark "Oleo Stomp". But he soon left the pop world to follow his first love:
Comedy.
Starting out on the comedy club circuit, Steve
Oedekerk pushed the envelope by bending classic stand-up structure, keeping the audience
in stitches, but off-balance at the same time. Pants were frequently peed.
As a writer on "In Living Color",
Oedekerk collaborated with Jim Carrey on "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective."
Then with the box office success of
"Ace", Carrey solicited Oedekerk to write and direct the sequel, "Ace
Ventura: When Nature Calls," one of the few comedy sequels to financially surpass the
original. Rumors about the rhino scene are to this day unconfirmed.
Oedekerk again performed
writing-directing duties on the comedy "Nothing To Lose" starring tall dramatic
actor Tim Robbins and short comedic actor Martin Lawrence.
His writing credits also include
"The Nutty Professor" starring Eddie Murphy, and the current box-office smash
hit, "Patch Adams" starring Robin Williams.
Even with all these film projects keeping him busy,
Oedekerk wrote, directed, and performed in the wild comedy special,
"Steve.Oedekerk.Com", which aired on NBC. Oedekerk also produced the
computer-animated Christmas special, "Santa vs. the Snowman", (animated by DNA
Productions, aired on ABC) by hand-rendering every digital pixel himself.
Oedekerk is currently in production on a
computer-animated feature film and television series, "Jimmy Neutron: Boy
Genius" for Nickelodeon, and the upcoming landmark classic blockbuster release,
"Thumbtanic."
