Here in Chicago, it's like $6.50. I think, at least. So hopefully I get paid around $7.00 and make around two dollars in tips per hour. It's possible, with all the yuppies around here. :/

Minimum wage here is $7.25, but that's in Canadian dollars. :(

Sethomas
Aug 27th, 2004, 11:23 PM
Quick, someone remark that's equivalent to $0.47 US!!!

kahljorn
Aug 27th, 2004, 11:34 PM
lol, youll make more than 2 dollars an hour on tips if it's a remotely good coffee place.

Sethomas
Aug 27th, 2004, 11:38 PM
The optimist in me concurs. However, when I worked in a small private coffee house catering to a rural bedroom community, I got shit for tips because I wasn't cute or social. AND I worked too long AND I was underpaid AND nobody appreciated that I was the sole gluon holding together the nucleus of the Cicero Coffee Company.

So, I don't set my expectations high.

that's fucked up :( When i worked in this crappy restaurant/fast food restaurant id get like 20 bucks a day in tips. AND IT WAS FAST FOODISH

Sethomas
Aug 28th, 2004, 01:04 AM
Yeah, I did more research and all I could find was the Illinois state imposed one, which is $5.50 (raising a dollar with the new year), but I swear I read a news article that said otherwise. It disappeared. :(

I thought you were an artist. :troutslap

Actually, I just thought that needed an emoticon, but it really doesn't convey the bitter irony I was going for.

At least France's government is all red beret and black turtleneck sweater-wearing hippie socialists. Don't like that sentence's construction? Well it's PERFECT.

im waiting a replay from McDs, i submitted a form a few days ago..

anyways, when i worked at safeway, for the first 6 MONTHS i was on 'training pay', which is £2.20 an hour (below uk minumum wage). and all my 'training' consisted of 3 video viewing, very vague directions in what to do, and a crash course in the ways of the freezer department. i was the only one in my department during my shifts, so i couldnt ask anyone for help.

bastards. at least i got 4 quid an hour after my 'training'. then i was moved to the cushy world of till operator :)

little do you know that i talk to him on AIM and told him why i said that. i was in a lot of pain and wanted to yell at someone. he was nice about it, and we're buds :(

i'm not really a jerk :/ most of the time. if i am, it's cause something they did or said really ticked me off, or i just had a terrible day.

EDIT: plus, i always make fun of him being from arkansas. he knows i don't really mean it.

I think it's sad that employers are so cheap there must be a government controlled minimum wage, well unless I owned a buisness then I think I might understand more..

anyway, is it possible to actually survive on minimum wage where you live? (assuming you don't live in your parent's basement) because I can't, no matter how poor my lifestyle is...
just wondering if the cost of living in other states make the difference,

Minimum wage in NJ is 5.15, but I thought they had to pay you more according to your age. :/
