View Full Version : The Phil Hendrie Show: The greatest radio show EVER

On his January 17th show he had a television producer (who continually reminds people that he is a "gay man" and a "gay journalist") who is producing a television show called "Private School." The show is a reality series where they randomly pick a child from a public school to attend a private school. The producer claims it's really funny to see how excited the parents get because everybody knows that this kid is pretty much destined to fail, and won't be accepted. Phil calls the show cruel, but the man keeps insisting that it's all in fun, because it's facinating to see if he'll fail with dignity or if he'll go "over the edge" and maybe try to pull a "columbine" (though he assures everybody that they would never let that happen). He also goes on to say that being a gay man and a gay journalist that he knows what it's like to not be accepted.

People call in calling him a lunatic and an explotive peice of shit. He continues to maintain that the show isn't bad, and tells everybody how much money the parents are getting for it (a lot). As more angry people call he reveals some more details about certain episodes of the show, to show everybody that it really is a funny, enjoyable show. In doing so he reveals that they are actually sabatoging the boy into failing, by having him use invisible ink to write his homework in (so it fades away by the time he turns it in), cutting holes in the ass of his pants, sending a man to pose as a girl to ask him out and then show the boy he had a penis, and having crew members urinate on his gym clothes before he takes them to school.

As the producer continues to take more shit from the listener's calls, he explains that it isn't about mocking the boy, but celebrating how strong he is for being able to endure all this. He then uses an example: in one episode they told him a formal dance was going to have a hawaiian theme to it. When he shows up in hawaiian shorts and a hawaiian shirt, he runs out of the dance humilated, drives home, takes out his dad's gun, and holds it in his mouth for 3 minutes. He DOESN'T pull the trigger. People are now threatening to kill the producer.

What the listeners who call in don't know is that it's all an elaborate joke. Phil Hendrie was the voice of the television producer and he was having a conversation with himself, in the studio.

I've heard a few episodes after getting a zip file full of links for his programs.
It's like "Vidas Reais" here in Portugal, but with the funny.
but if such a show was attempted here in Portugal, a stampede of rabid SMS messagers, soccer moms and Tvi reporters would blow up the radio station.

The best radio show is the Wankus Show. One time, he had a girl put the mics in her ass and vagina, and all the guests had to talk into the mics like that for the rest of the show.

Phil Hendrie is fucking hilarious AND smart. He's also amazingly talented. He can maintain two seperate conversations and keep people completely fooled the whole time.

Shock Jocks fucking suck.

Well, he's not a shock jock. He runs a sex radio show, so it's kind of his job. :)

Unfortunately they only have one free clip per month, but they don't really put up the best clips there. You used to be able to listsen for free but now you have to pay 7 bucks a month, but it's totally worth it. You get a 30 day archive and a really big "classic" archive. the show is 3 hours long (2 hours after they cut out the commercials for the 30 day archive). So for the price to see a movie you get 30 2 hour shows that are probably more entertaining than most movies out there.

You CAN find clips on KaZzA though, mostly from the "best-of" CDs.

I remember another really great bit he did back when all the Stem Cell research hoo haw was in the news and stuff: He had one of his characters on the phone named Bobbie Dooley who was trying to convince her friend and next-door-neighbor to get an abortion, so she would be able to audition for a part in a sitcom. Bobbie was also suggesting it would be good for her because she could give the baby up for stem cell researching (or as she understands it, "grinding up the baby to make medicine with").

She gets angry calls like usual, one caller has a little kid with her. Bobbie asks if she could speak to the child, and when the child is put on the phone, she asks it "Wouldn't YOU like to be ground up and made into medicine?"

Then eventually it gets out that Bobbie's real motivation for all of this is being able to cash in on the eventual rising of her property value if her neighbor becomes a sitcom star.

His bits are pretty much formulaic like that, he plays a stupid misguided character and usually has a secret agenda that comes out or something else that makes their ideas much worse, thus resulting in angrier and angrier calls.
