There is no way this cannot be a joke. Goths are required to be masochistic and use cliched imagery, goths who don't worship the devil (which devil is that, anyway?) are posers, and people have big conversations about goths every time they walk by? Personally, I just laugh and think "what an idiot" whenever a goth walks by, there's no way I would stop whatever I was doing at the time and start talking about the idiot goth.
