Most counter-culture groups eventually become stylistically similiar as that is what brought them together in the first place. Also, after the lifestyle becomes stagnant, they basically start to engender the traits of the mainstream they once despised or once again fall into the mainstream after becoming bored. It's human nature. Very little from counter-culturism is ever really that new ( "Nothing new under the sun" ) or, when it is, does it get absorbed into the mainstream. Those that do end up in these groups for life are probably just socially challenged and/or are refusing to grow up.
