I responded that way because somebody was trying to be patronizing and/or sarcastic to me when I was merely pointing out the root origin of the word when, of course, I realized that there were slaves prior to the slavs. The main thrust of my argument was in pointing out the fact that people get angry about things they don't even understand or have failed to take upon themselves to research. Also, we can use the word today because it has been established as part of the modern english language. Prior to the subjugation of the slavs, the word "slave" was not in used although the subjugation of humans was occurring whatever the label that they may have given it.
