How do you do sprite rips?

'Yello. Someone told me where to go for ROM hacking, so thanx, but that's not why I posted this. I wanna know...how do you do sprite rips? I read on a website u have 2 cut them out of they're ROM, but they didn't say how. :/ If someone can help-like always- that would kick ass! Thanx.
