Atkins method was true, and is recommended by doctors now. But the danger isn't that it works, the danger is that getting too much protein and not enough carbs causes gradual heart and liver damage.
Thats why it is suggested only to stay on it for a few months.
The guy that discovered the relation to what causes fat in the body didn't discover run accross it because he was trying to figure out a way to stay thin. He was a scientist, not a nutritionist. So why would he have to go on a diet that others developed from his discovery?
