The man is more conservative than half the Republican Party. He is out of touch with the current party alignments. I've become a supporter of big tent politics, but that is NOT what this man practices. He clings to his Democratic Party registration much the way Democrats chose to stay Democrats in the late-19th Century. I'm not saying it isn't smart on his part, but as Max already suggested, it is slightly dishonest and cowardly.
He chastizes the Dems. for being a "national party no longer," but then uses his party affiliation + contrary policy stance to make himself seem important. Blah.
