What i meant with "dont risk it" was to put that friendship up to "thick" before the relationship, so as not to be identified as only a friend, but as a possible lover. you dont want to give her the wrong signals "oh he must just want to be good friends, ill get chuck to ask me out instead" or something like that. of course there has to be friendship there, but send out those "very interested" signals also, thats if you want to get this chick and not become a taxi or "gofer boy" or listen to her cry over the phone about other guys.... how much would you value that friendship then
