They're not much interested in the real thing because the real thing has many more complications than how it is on the tv. Most men would rather not think of the whole process needed so the woman would have a clean anus, much less mention it. One bad experience involving fecal matter is quite enough for most men that were interested enough to try, for them to not persue the matter anymore.
The whole woman mentality usually is that after being subtly pestered about this for a while (in the form of 'we should broaden out sexual horizons, sweetie' and other such bulshit) if a woman gives in, then the guy shouldn't complain about the fine print (read: shit :O). And so the guy gets to play pirate in uncharted waters, wondering when he's going to bump into an island (sorry, silly greek analogy) while the girl tries to come to terms with how exactly this sort of thing feels. And now the collective womankind complains on this thread about how this is not so and blah blah blah
