One of the print stories attached to that (I don't remember the site) said that, by some freak of good fortune, the point at which the guy's body was hit was, more or less, the same as the point of impact for the car-to-car collision a fraction of a second earlier. In other words, the dent of that collision virtually surrounded the pedestrian and caused much less traumatic injuries than what normally would have been the case. Weird.
