I didn't prove any faults in his character. In fact, what I mostly deducted was that he wasn't a character at all.

Just a human with human motives like the rest of us.

"I don't care what you people think about me" isn't a view most people actually hold. Psychopaths, maybe, but not Mad Max. Deep down, he wants to have some form of respect.
