I'm sometimes hesitant even to think this because it sounds so insane, but I really believe that the Bush decision to invade Iraq had less to do with ideology or advice than that he simply didn't want to appear ineffectual in the aftermath of 9/11. Because of that, over 20,000 people have died so far.
